Who is Becka from The Warrior Heir and what is their importance?

Becka Swift is Jack's mother. She is an Anaweir..... a person without gifts. Becka has a PhD in medieval literature, as well as a law degree, but neither helps her to balance the family budget.

When Becka is awarded a fellowship at Oxford to do research in Middle English literature over the summer, she has no idea that Jack is a Warrior, or that her placement in England was created as a cover to get Jack closer to his destiny.
