What does Lee find when he returns home in the novel, The Warrior Heir?

When Lee returns home, he finds his father and brother, Martin, dead. His mother is sitting in her chair, but she cannot speak or respond to his questions. He then finds his sister, Carrie, hiding in the cellar.
