The fact that Maverick is able to bring the two gangs together is a pivotal moment in the narrative. The gang violence and rivalry explored in the novel leaves the people of Garden Heights in constant turmoil. Maverick isn't able to end the war between the two gangs, but he is able to make them see that they do have things in common.
