On the guest,what is Daru's attention toward that crime and toward the colonial government's action in relation to it?

Daru has a dilemma. He abhors all acts of violence including the Arab killing his cousin. He, however, also dislikes the French occupation of Algeria and the French laws forced upon the Arabs. Ironically French law would be more lenient on the Arab than Arab law would be.
