Mr. Trent is the president of the bank that provides the gold for payment to the soldiers in the Crimean War. He is described as a strict man, who lives by a strict routine. Trent, however, has one habit that stands out from his usual routine, he enjoys dog and rat fights. This provides Pierce with a way to get close to Trent and learn where Trent hides one of the keys to the Chubb safes that contain the gold on the train.
