Nick takes care of Gatsby's funeral because he realizes that no one else is going to. He is sickened by the fact that after all Gatsby's offered the wealthy (in the way of parties and favors) that no one steps up to bury the man. It is also Nick's last act. He has become disillusioned with everything and is leaving.
