What is the main difference between East and West Egg?

These two communities on the east side of Long Island are marked by a pair of egg-shaped land formations and separated by a bay of water. Gatsby and Nick live in adjoining houses in West Egg, while Daisy and Tom have a house in the more socially up-market East Egg. The distinctions between the two communities reflect the distinctions made in Nick's mind between the high-society, financially successful Eastern part of the country and the lower-society, economically disadvantaged west.
