The Great Gatsby

What is revealed when Nick says that people aren't actually invited to Gatsby's parties, that they just sort of go there?

What we learn from this is that Gatsby really doesn't know that many well to do people, nor is he interested in doing so. He has people to parties in order to impress Daisy. We also learn of the decadence going on at Gatsby's parties which is why the normally upstanding people of upper society love to go to his parties....anything goes.
