How does C. S. Lewis use imagery in The Great Divorce?

The imagery juxtaposes the brightness of Heaven with the drab existence of purgatory or grey town. The joyful mirth of God's presence is full of colour and detail, while the grey town is morose and grey: ghosts that survive there are almost translucent.
