Why is the dustbowl considered an antagonist in The Grapes of Wrath?

An antagonist in a story is something or someone that stops the protagonist from achieving happiness or a goal of some sort. to that end, then, the dustbowl is an antagonist because it is the source and cause of a great deal of the trouble that shapes this story.
