What is the main conflict in The Good Person of Szechuan by Bertolt Brecht?

The main conflict in the novel revolves around the gods' determination to find a "good" person. Shen Teh is the "good" person, who in order to survive, creates the alter-ego Shui Ta to do the “bad” and unpleasant things for her.
