James Hillis Rogers was Fred's father. A successful businessman, engaged in several aspects of his family's wealth-building operations, he nevertheless had time to encourage and support his son in his individual pursuits, even when they did not necessarily fit with the family's business-oriented perspectives. As a result of the acknowledgement and support of his father, among others, Fred developed his passion for acknowledging and valuing the individual identity of children, a key aspect of his life and work.
