Who is Kate Nagy from The Good Master and what is their importance?

Kate is the precocious daughter of Sandor the school teacher. She is impetuous, spoiled, and gifted in playing the innocent. Over the course of the novel, the structure Kate is provided with by her uncle will serve to focus her goals and gain a new awareness to the world around her.
