How does the author use foreshadowing in The Good Earth?

Wang Lung’s expectation that rain will soon fall, as well as the daily boiling of water for his father, and his careful bathing for his wedding, foreshadows new beginnings. Rain water washes things away, boiling water serves to cleanse it, and washing makes one clean.
