The Good Doctor is written in first person omniscient, with Dr. Frank Eloff as the narrator. Galgut's language is straight-forward, almost stark. It mirrors the environment and the lifestyle of the inhabitants. The language is without frills and without embellishment, just like Frank.

The Good Doctor has nineteen chapters. The plot is linear with occasional use of flashbacks to fill us in on details and relationships as they exist presently.
