Ranofer is motivated by his desire to end his apprenticeship with Gebu, his observations that Gebu is leaving in the middle of the night, the fact that Gebu suddenly has an abundance of new things, as well as Gebu's anger when Ranofer inquires as to the strange chamber included in the plan's for a judge's tomb.
