What is the author's style in The Glass Room by Simon Mawer?

The novel is separated into five parts. In each part of the novel, the book is separated into smaller chapters that is anywhere from three to thirty pages in length. While the chapters are descriptive, they do not drag on for any long amount of time. There seems to be an equal amount of dialogue to keep the story moving.
