The jade ashtray symbolizes Ryo’s involvement in Mali’s murder. Mali tells Sarah that she killed Ryo using a jade ashtray that belonged to her mother, however, when Goi searches Ryo’s apartment, she finds a jade ashtray there. The ashtray thus symbolizes the conspiratorial relationship between Ryo and Mali and the lies which surround it.
