How does Lois Lowry use imagery in The Giver?

The imagery is of a pleasant community with trivial problems. There however is no color, which represents the monotony and forced conformity by the Elders. Only Jonas begins to see color. Jonas's discovery is juxtaposed with the very monotone and static imagery that others see. Once Jonas is able to see beyond, his world becomes vivid color that represents the, often intense, emotional feelings that Jonas is feeling.
