Why would someone need these traits in order to maintain memories?
Inner strength and empathy would be necessary in order to carry the memories themselves. Living amidst a people that have no knowledge of pain, evil, and fear would require the Receiver to be strong enough to act on their own... to harbor the memories without passing them onto the community.
