The National Secuirty Agency (NSA), is a United States federal authority that reports to the Department of Defense. Its headquarters is in Fort Meade, Maryland. Since the agency was founded in 1952, it has been involved in signals surveillance. These days that means surveillance mostly in connection with Internet and telephone traffic. It monitors more than 20 billion conversations and messages every 24 hours.
