What is the meaning of the phrase "like being married to Tolstoy" in Roth's, Ghost Writer?

Please discuss the phrase " like being married to Tolstoy" in the Ghost Writer by Phillip Roth.

Tolstoy and his wife had a love/ hate relationship. Hope's propensity to walk out the door in anger is reminiscent of the Tolstoys.
