Dedication and hard work are recurring ideas in the book. The book reveals the dedication of the characters to their service. One of the characters that exemplified this dedication was Craig T. Lowell. He had a reputation as a hard worker who paid attention to details. He was known to always get the job done which was why he was sent to Fort Hood to help solve the transportation problem during the Cuban missile crisis. Lowell would always get the job done even if he broke the rules as at Fort Hood.
