Who is Miep Gies from The Freedom Writers Diary and what is their importance?

Miep Gies was Otto Frank's secretary and close friend. She was the one who found Anne Frank's diary in the annex after the family's arrest. Gies came to America in order to attend the 50th Anniversary celebration of Anne's diary and took time out of her schedule to speak to the Freedom Writers.
