The language of the novel is extremely informal most of the time, particularly in areas of dialog. Henry is not a formal man, although he is highly intelligent, and his dialogs are often high brow but not difficult to comprehend. The sentences are structured in an informal manner as well, with some sentences containing little or no punctuation as Henry's thoughts are simply places on paper in their original form, without formatting. This style is easy to read, and helps the reader understand the mind of the main character.
