M. Bernard was Jacques' elementary school teacher. He fought alongside Henri and Levesque in the war. Bernard shows deep compassion for the students in his class who have lost their fathers. He is described as a fair, strict and loving teacher, who is loved by his students. He tutors Jacques in order to assist him in gaining admittance to Lycee, an elementary school for advanced students.
