How does the author use foreshadowing in The Finkler Question?

In Part II, Chapter XIII, Hephzibah visits Julian in the hospital, though he is sleeping. Hephzibah, however, doesn't believe he is asleep, but rather believes herself to be a part of everything that disgusts him. Though it is not true at this point, it is true the next day, thus fulfilling the foreshadowing regarding the end of Julian and Hephzibah's relationship.
