How is Jeff's mother described in the novel, The Fat Girl?

Jeff's mother is described as clingy and manipulative. She gets Jeff to do whatever she wants by playing on his feelings of guilt. Jeff always feels that he is, or rather fails to be, responsible for his mother's happiness since his father has left her.
