Tuor is the main character of The Fall of Gondolin whom Ulmo chooses as a messenger to convince Turgon to fight Morgoth before Gondolin is destroyed. Tuor is the only human in the story and is described as having a much larger stature than the Eldar. As a child, Tuor was given to a tribe of elves while his mother left to find his father at the Battle of Unnumbered Tears and never returned. Therefore, Tuor developed a love for the elves and their culture and is able to communicate with any Eldar he comes across. However, Tuor also spent three years of his life as a thrall to Morgoth and lived in solitude for years after his escape. He is also the first known man to ever feel desire for the sea and a devotion to Ulmo. Under Ulmo’s power, Tuor speaks with confidence about many things that Tuor himself does not understand.
