How do Marcus and Esca manage to steal the Eagle?

Marcus and Esca awaken before dawn on the day they are to depart. They creep to the area where holy objects are held and take the Eagle. They then hide the eagle in the forest to return and retrieve later. They return to their rooms as though they had not left.
