Describe Golyadkin’s first encounter with his double.

Golyadkin is feeling tormented by the previous scene, and in the same way that the footsteps below him on the stairs forced him into Krestyan Ivanovich’s office, now the appearance of a passerby gets Golyadkin to compose himself. He cannot completely do so, however, because the passerby resembles him in an uncanny way—he is dressed the same, and walks the same way—which draws Golyadkin into a chase.
