In the Diary of Anne Frank, Anne's family had to go into hiding because the Nazis had arrived in Amersterdam and were beginning to round people up to take to labor camps. Mr. Frank had been planning for the possibility that they might have to go into hiding for many months prior and had slowly been bringing necesssary items into the annex. He had furniture, canned goods, a radio, and other such things that his family would need to wait out the war.
