In The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne notices that things begin to change once the Van Daans move in. For one thing, they are very loud and opinionated. Mr. Van Daan smokes habitually. They are always arguing with one another. They disregard the rules that Mr. Frank has imposed on everyone else (like the cat for example). Anne also notices that Mrs. Van Daan flirts shamelessly with her father.
