The Great Migration refers to the migrations of Black Americans from the South to the North in the decades following the Civil War. Black Americans who migrated did so in search of economic opportunity, and in the hope of escaping racial persecution. However, Black Americans faced equally egregious forms of racial oppression in the North. Most Black Americans remained in the South. These constitute some of the reasons for why Blow advocates a reversal of the Great Migration.
