What happens along the roadside in the short story, The Deal of a Lifetime?

The night before the narrative present, the narrator was driving drunk. He lost control of the car while searching for his phone, and wrecked his car. Then, on the roadside, the woman in the grey sweater delivered him from the wreckage. Covered in blood and terrified, the narrator begged the woman to spare him. During their conversation, he learned new things about the woman, about death, and about fate.
