Who is Mr. Browne from The Dead and what is their importance?

Mr. Browne is a guest at the Morkans' party. He enjoys his whiskey and is described as flirtacious and condescending. Many critics see Brwone as a symbol of England's rule over Ireland. Browne is the only Protestant in the story.
