Violence is a recurring idea in the story. In The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower, Roland Deschain is a gunslinger, who comes from a long line of gunslingers. He is a mythical hero, and has trained others he has met along the way to become gunslingers, including Eddie Dean, Susannah Dean, Jake Chambers, and even Oy. He teaches them the way to use guns properly, to respect and revere their gifts that allow them to use the guns to maximum efficiency.
