In Chapter One, the reader immediately becomes aware that something caused Penny and her family to move from New York to Hog's Hollow, Lizzie's childhood home. As the story unfolds, the secrets of the family that caused Lizzie to change from an art gallery director in Chelsea to the owner of The Cupcake Queen bakery in Hog's Hollow will be revealed. The opening chapter also foreshadows that Penny is in a stage in her life where she is trying to discover who she is—and moving to a new town and having to make new friends is an added challenge.
