Why is ''The Crucible'' an allegory ?

The Crucible can be considered an allegory to the time in which it was published. During the era that the book came out there was an extreme fear of communists and communism. False accusations were frequent (like in the Crucible), and in the end, like in the Crucible, it becomes evident that false accusations hurt everyone.
