Tillich moved to Chicago with his family in 1962, following appointments at both Columbia University and Harvard University. He was given a position at the University of Chicago, where he wrote the third and final volume of his systematic theology, his magnum opus. He remained a professor of theology at the University of Chicago until his death in 1962 at the age of 79.
