French theorist and political philosopher, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, considered himself an anarchist, but Engels refers to Proudhon's adherents as socialists. Proudhon is significant in the context of this summary as the foremost example of a political theorist, who Marx and Engels would consider to be a natural friend of the Communist movement.
