Located next to the tribal gates, the rusty, water-less fountain in the Central Plaza of Daevabad reflects the stagnant relations between the tribes. Like the fountain, the tribes lack connection with one another; members of the different tribes do not interact with one another, a fact that leads to conflict later in the book.
