Mama is Francisco's mother..... the mother of many children. She is described as loving, solicitous, hard-working, and sweet. Like her husband, Mama is unschooled. After moving to Tent City, Mama is able to stop picking when she becomes the cook for the migrant workers. This job enables her to be home with her children.
