When Jerome Skinner, shows up and asks Katherine and Sally what is going on, he is suspicious of their story. Jerome hadn't heard anything. Jerome then tells the group that he is out on a patrol because there are Fringes spies suspected about, and he advises them to stay clear of the woods.
