Theo is alone with Kee in the dilapidated flat of the internment camp. He uses alcohol to sterilize the procedure as best he can. Theo is not a doctor but rises to the occasion. Theo is also an alcoholic because, like most people, he has lost hope on the future. Kee and her baby are the only vestiges of hope left.
