Newspapers are a symbol of truth. When a reporter writes a story about something they are uncovering all the details and laying the truth out for public viewing. Kate is a hard core investigative journalist who wants to get to the bottom of a story. She wants to know the details and uncover all the missing and hidden facts, so that the truth of a situation will be known. When she first stumbles across the news piece in another paper indicating that the body of a baby had been unearthed, her first instinct is "What's the story?" (6).
