The language DeMille uses is straightforward and uncomplicated. Since the narrative is set in Russia, Russian words and their definitions are interspersed throughout the story. Given that the subject of the story centers around U.S. - Russian diplomacy, some diplomatic and military jargon is also employed. For example, the word "détente" appears quite often, as do terms such as "need to know."
