Who is Ralph Griffin from The Chamber and what is their importance?

Ralph Griffin serves as the minister at Parchman prison. He was swarded the position because of family connections. Griffin, however, does not believe in the death penalty and decides he must resign, but not before providing Sam Cayhill with religious counsel before leaving.
