One major them in the novel, The Chamber, is that of redemption, specifically, the redemption of Sam Cayhall. Once sentenced to prison and facing execution, Sam has a lot of time to think about his actions, for which, he comes to accept not just the responsibility for his actions but to feel remorse for his actions as well. Sam made his peace with God, confessed, and even wrote personal letters to the families of his victims. He was also able to make peace with his family, and even meet members of his family that he had never been aware of.
