Holden is lonely throughout most of the novel. In particular, he feels alone and lonely when he is first kicked out of school. He feels lonely when he thinks he's found a girl that can understand him, and then she just ends up being a 'phoney'. He feels lonely when he realizes that his sister won't always be with him. Pick a chapter. He is virtually alone and says he feels lonely in every chapter.
